Hyderabad, Sep 14 (NationPress) A tragic incident occurred as a person lost their life and three others are presumed to have been swept away during heavy rains that battered Hyderabad and its surrounding areas on Sunday evening, disrupting daily life significantly.
Reports indicate that two individuals were swept away in the Afzal Sagar nala located in the Mallepally region of the city. Eyewitnesses revealed that a man and his son-in-law were caught in the floodwaters while attempting a rescue.
The son-in-law jumped into the 'nala' (drain) to save his father-in-law after he fell in, and both were subsequently carried away by the rushing water.
Authorities, including the police and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation personnel, are actively searching for the missing duo.
In another distressing event, a young man identified as Sunny (24) was washed away in a nala in Musheerabad, Secunderabad, after the retaining wall he was seated on collapsed.
Additionally, a construction worker tragically died, and four others were injured when a wall of an under-construction convention center collapsed in Vattinagulapally, under Gachibowli Police jurisdiction. The deceased has been identified as Sekhar Mandal (24), while the injured individuals were taken to a hospital, with one reported to be in critical condition.
The city faced severe rainfall, with recorded precipitation reaching 12 centimeters, causing major roads to become inundated and halting vehicular movement.
Key thoroughfares transformed into lakes due to the downpour, and significant water accumulation near the Integrated Police Command and Control Centre on Road Number 12 in Banjara Hills caused complete traffic paralysis. Greater Hyderabad's Mayor, Vijayalaxmi Gadwal, has taken charge to oversee the drainage of water.
Heavy rainfall has also disrupted traffic in areas such as Sheikhpet, Manikonda, Golconda, Raidurgam, Mehdipatnam, Toli Chowki, Masab Tank, Lakdi Ka Pul, Khairatabad, Jubilee Hills, Film Nagar, Somajiguda, Panjagutta, Ameerpet, and other bustling city locales.
Rainfall statistics show that Abdullahpurmet, on the outskirts, recorded approximately 13 cm. Musheerabad received 12.1 cm, Jawaharnagar 11 cm, Osmania University 10.1 cm, and Maredpally 9.5 cm.
