Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 5 (NationPress) The working president of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), A.P. Anil Kumar, stated on Friday that a post on its official X account, which made a controversial comparison between Bihar and 'bidis' before being deleted, does not represent an official stance of the party.
The uproar began with a now-removed tweet from @INCKerala that stated: “Bidis and Bihar start from B. Cannot be considered a sin anymore.”
Following its deletion, another message was shared: “We see that our jibe at Modi's election gimmick with GST rates is being twisted. Our apologies if you felt hurt.”
In a conversation with IANS, Kumar emphasized that all posts on the social media account are supposed to receive official approval before being published.
“The post in question was not sanctioned officially and was removed as soon as it was noticed. An apology has also been issued. The party will certainly investigate what transpired,” stated Kumar, a former two-term State Minister.
This incident coincided with the festivities of Onam in Kerala, triggering a strong reaction from NDA leaders in Bihar.
Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister, Samrat Choudhary, expressed outrage over the remark, asserting, “First, they insulted the mother of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and now they are disrespecting all of Bihar. This showcases the true nature of Congress, which has been revealed to the country.”
JD(U) MLC and chief spokesperson Neeraj Kumar remarked that the INDIA bloc has made the insult of Bihar part of its political identity.
“Sometimes it's about bidis, other times it's jabs at Biharis. Bihar is home to Buddha, Sita, and Sufi saints. Tejashwi Yadav should clarify — does Bihar equate to bidi? The voters will respond through EVMs,” he asserted.
Union Textile Minister Giriraj Singh also criticized Congress leadership, stating, “The brainless Rahul’s malicious Congress consistently mistreats Bihar… their downfall is inevitable.”
RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav commented, “If any offensive remarks have been made about Bihar, an apology is warranted.”
