Agartala/Kohima, April 29 (NationPress) The opposition Congress is spearheading the ‘Samvidhan Bachao’ (Save Constitution) initiative throughout the northeastern states.

Claiming that the Constitution is under threat from the BJP-led Central government, Congress conducted a significant rally in Agartala on Tuesday.

During the rally, Tripura state Congress President Asish Kumar Saha asserted that democracy is in jeopardy under BJP governance.

“The government is attempting to suppress the right to free speech enshrined in the Constitution. Communal, religious, and ethnic harmony are experiencing severe challenges,” Saha stated, adding that his party will persist in its efforts to safeguard the Constitution and its fundamental values.

The state Congress chief criticized the recent passage of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill in Parliament, calling it a “most undemocratic process.”

He further claimed that central agencies like the CBI and ED have become “instruments of the BJP and RSS, wielded against opposition leaders.”

Thousands of Congress supporters, including numerous women, took part in the rally that traversed the capital city.

In Nagaland, the Pradesh Congress Committee, with the presence of AICC Secretary-in-Charge for Nagaland, Christopher Tilak, and Lok Sabha MP and state party President S Supongmeren Jamir, convened to raise awareness among citizens to unite in the ‘Save the Constitution’ campaign.

Tilak mentioned that the ongoing initiative aims to enlighten the public about the historical development of the Indian Constitution and to highlight the “escalating threats it confronts.”

“The Indian Constitution is a product of the diligent efforts of great leaders like Mahatma Gandhi and B.R. Ambedkar, which the Congress party has upheld for decades. Today, it faces danger from the BJP and RSS,” he alleged.

The Manipur Congress also organized a ‘Samvidhan Bachao’ rally on Sunday. Party leaders indicated that as part of the national agenda, the Congress will conduct ‘Save Constitution’ rallies in all northeastern states.

Earlier, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge announced a nationwide series of ‘Samvidhan Bachao’ rallies, scheduled from April 25 to 30.

Point of View

It is crucial to recognize the Congress party's efforts to engage citizens in protecting constitutional values. While it's essential to highlight their claims against the ruling BJP, it is equally important to analyze the broader context of political discourse and democratic engagement in India.
