Bhubaneswar, July 11 (NationPress) The Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday accused the opposition Congress of striving to preserve its relevance under the guise of initiatives like 'Save the Constitution'.
It is noteworthy that Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, and KC Venugopal are present in Odisha for a significant rally titled 'Save the Constitution' at Baramunda Ground in Bhubaneswar.
During a press conference, senior BJP figure Biranchinarayan Tripathy remarked, "The vote share of Congress has been steadily declining with each election. The party's representation in Parliament has failed to reach three digits in the last three general elections."
"With the evident disintegration of Congress's organizational structure, I believe this isn't merely a 'Sambidhan Bachao Samabesh'; it's a 'Congress Bachao Samabesh'—a desperate bid to save its own existence," Tripathy stated.
He further asserted that Congress's claims about assaults on the Constitution are akin to someone residing in a glass house casting stones.
Tripathy went on to assert that the Congress party lacks internal democracy and is dominated by the Nehru-Gandhi family.
He also criticized Congress for having made numerous amendments to the Constitution, including changes to its Preamble.
Moreover, he accused Congress of undermining the Constitution by declaring a state of Emergency in 1975, during which they made a minimum of five amendments and imprisoned numerous opposition leaders.
In contrast, Tripathy highlighted how the current Union government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has been providing substantial support to the Odisha government in terms of financial assistance and development projects.
"When the earlier Congress-led government was in power under former PM Manmohan Singh, some Odisha MPs sought his attention regarding various projects and issues. In response, Singh remarked, 'Is money growing on trees to give to Odisha?' This showcases their disdain for the state," Tripathy alleged.
Referring to Kharge's “disparaging” comments about President Droupadi Murmu, Tripathy called for an apology from the Congress leader for “insulting” her.
President Murmu, who is from the state, belongs to the tribal community.
Significantly, Kharge had referred to the President as “Murma ji” during an event.
