Patna, March 25 (NationPress) In a notable shift ahead of the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, the Congress has formally declared its intent to compete under the banner of the INDIA Bloc.
This pivotal decision was reached during a high-level assembly led by Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday.
Noteworthy figures, including Rahul Gandhi and key Congress officials from Bihar, were present at the meeting. Bihar Congress President Rajesh Kumar confirmed the party's position while speaking to the media in New Delhi.
"The Congress party will participate in the Bihar Assembly elections under the INDIA Bloc. Unlike in other regions, the alliance is cohesive in Bihar, and our main goal is to defeat the BJP-led coalition. The BJP is our primary adversary in Bihar," Kumar stated.
When asked about the seat-sharing arrangement, Rajesh Kumar noted that it is premature to delve into specifics.
"Discussing seat sharing at this stage is too early. As the elections approach, our leaders will convene to finalize the arrangement," he remarked.
Even with the RJD already announcing Tejashwi Yadav as the Chief Ministerial candidate for the Mahagathbandhan, Congress leaders indicated that the ultimate decision will be reached after consultations with all alliance partners.
Congress in-charge Krishna Allavaru reiterated this sentiment: "The name of the Chief Minister candidate will be determined after discussions with all partners of the INDIA Bloc."
Regarding the potential inclusion of Prashant Kishor in the INDIA Bloc, Krishna Allavaru remained non-committal: "A decision will be reached after thorough discussions. We will sit down and converse about it."
On the involvement of Pappu Yadav, Allavaru stated: "The INDIA Bloc supports anyone who opposes the BJP."
The meeting included notable Bihar Congress leaders such as former state president Akhilesh Singh, former minister Ramjatan Sinha, and Shakeel Ahmed.
This declaration suggests that the previously speculated rift between RJD and Congress may be easing. As the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections draw near, the unity within the INDIA Bloc could be pivotal in contesting the BJP-led coalition in the state.
