New Delhi, April 17 (NationPress) Senior Congress leader Rashid Alvi stated on Thursday that should the Congress party regain power, it will revise the Waqf (Amendment) Act to align with the aspirations and requirements of the Muslim community.
In an interview with IANS, Alvi remarked, "I have reiterated this before — the BJP government is transient. We will certainly reclaim power, and when that occurs, we will amend the Waqf Act in accordance with the sentiments and expectations of the Muslim community. This is our pledge."
Alvi also criticized the BJP for creating divisions within the country for its political advantage.
"The BJP isn't merely attempting to polarize West Bengal; they aim to sow discord across the nation. Their only agenda appears to be to provoke conflict between Hindus and Muslims. Their primary concerns seem to revolve around triple talaq and the Waqf Act.
"Issues like unemployment are of no concern to them. Inflation doesn’t affect them. The deteriorating economic conditions, along with insufficient food and healthcare for the impoverished — all of this evidently doesn’t bother them. They think they can retain power by dividing people along religious lines," he asserted.
The Congress leader further admonished several political figures for endorsing the Waqf Act out of what he termed a "quest for power."
“Nitish Kumar, Chandrababu Naidu, Ajit Singh’s son, and Ram Vilas Paswan’s son — none of them chose to be silent. In fact, they backed the BJP in Parliament by voting in favor of the Waqf Act. Had they opted to abstain or remained silent, this legislation would not have been enacted. In their pursuit of power, they opted to align with the BJP,” Alvi alleged.
He further accused the BJP of being responsible for the turmoil in Murshidabad, West Bengal.
"The BJP is accountable for the crisis in Murshidabad. They believe it is challenging to defeat Mamata Banerjee in Bengal. Just a few days ago, Amit Shah mentioned that they would not oppose if a 'patriotic' party came to power in Bengal. What does that signify? That Mamata Banerjee is unpatriotic? That her supporters are traitors? This clearly indicates they are ready to go to any lengths to oust her from power," Alvi concluded.
