Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 15 (NationPress) Intensifying his criticism of the ruling CPI-M in Kerala, state Congress leader Sunny Joseph on Saturday accused the Marxist leadership of displaying a mindset that appears to celebrate the BJP’s success in Bihar, and of targeting Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal to distract from its own electoral shortcomings.

Joseph asserted that Congress had done everything within its power to enhance the INDIA alliance’s chances in Bihar.

In contrast, he remarked, the CPI-M's senior leadership -- including Politburo member and Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan -- refrained from campaigning in the crucial state.

“There was no visible presence of the Chief Minister or any significant CPI-M leader in the campaign. Even in constituencies where CPI-M fielded its candidates, Kerala’s leadership chose not to engage. They lack the moral authority to criticize,” he stated.

Joseph also took aim at CPI-M state Secretary M.V. Govindan for targeting Venugopal’s visit to his constituency, Alappuzha, during the intense Bihar election period.

“Venugopal serves as both an MP and a responsible national leader within the INDIA bloc. He fulfilled his obligations. To frame this as a wrongdoing only reveals the CPI-M's political insecurities,” he added.

The state Congress chief accused the Marxist party, often criticized for having “tacit understandings” with the BJP, of being unable to handle Venugopal’s growing influence in Kerala politics.

“CPI-M's political shortsightedness blinds them to their own compromises with the BJP. Venugopal’s presence in Kerala clearly unsettles them,” he noted.

Joseph further charged the CPI-M with overlooking critical issues such as the BJP’s alleged manipulation of opposition votes and the effects of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process on the electoral roll.

“Rather than investigating these issues, their focus is solely on attacking Congress. The current CPI-M lacks the standing to even mention the term secularism,” he claimed, alleging that the party has allied with communal forces “both covertly and overtly.”

Joseph’s remarks come amidst growing political tensions between the Congress-led UDF and the CPI-M-led LDF following the Bihar election outcomes.

Point of View

It is essential to view the current political dynamics between the Congress and CPI-M through an unbiased lens. The exchange of accusations reflects the broader struggle for power and influence in Indian politics, particularly in Kerala. While the Congress seeks to position itself as a strong opposition, CPI-M's strategic choices will determine its future relevance. The ongoing political rivalry highlights the importance of accountability and transparency in governance.
