CPI-M Leader Bipin C. Babu Transitions to Kerala BJP

Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 30 (NationPress) Bipin C. Babu, a notable leader of the CPI-M from Alappuzha district in Kerala, made the switch to the BJP on Saturday, commending Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his effective governance and criticizing the Left for its diminished secular stance.

The departure of Babu, who serves as a member of the Alappuzha district panchayat, occurs amid reports of alleged factionalism within the party, which has led to ongoing tensions among its members.

Speaking to the press after his transition to the BJP, Babu expressed his reasons for leaving the CPI-M, stating that the party has lost its secular vision and is now dominated by a single faction.

“I am pleased to join the BJP, particularly in light of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s contributions,” he remarked, foreseeing a potential wave of resignations from the CPI-M in the coming months.

“Just look at the progress in national highways and railways in Kerala,” Babu noted, indicating that he would soon step down from his position in the district panchayat, which he secured on a CPI-M ticket.

Criticizing the internal discord in the CPI-M, he stated, “The CPI-M faced a significant defeat in the Lok Sabha elections and has struggled badly in the Alappuzha Lok Sabha constituency. The CPI-M lacks a promising future.”

“Veteran CPI-M leaders, such as former state minister G. Sudhakaran, have been marginalized by the faction that controls the party’s operations in Alappuzha,” he added.

Babu, who previously led the CPI-M youth wing, predicted a mass exodus of party members following the conclusion of the upcoming state conference in a few months.

Upon welcoming Babu, Kerala BJP president K. Surendran asserted that numerous CPI-M workers are preparing to leave the party.

The state BJP experienced a setback shortly before the November 20 Palakkad Assembly bye-election when its well-known youth representative Sandeep Warrier switched to the Congress. The state Youth Congress president Rahul Mamkootathil won the bye-election by more than 18,000 votes.

The BJP candidate C. Krishnakumar finished second, while CPI-M-backed Dr. P. Sarin came in third.
