Chandrapur, Jan 16 (NationPress) In a pivotal political transformation, the Congress celebrated a remarkable triumph in the Chandrapur City Municipal Corporation (CCMC) elections on Friday, clinching 28 out of 66 seats. Vijay Wadettiwar, the Leader of the Congress Legislative Party, described the outcome as a clear mandate against the ‘corrupt and anti-people’ governance of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The victory ignited jubilant celebrations across Chandrapur, where Congress supporters and the local populace took to the streets, celebrating with firecrackers and vibrant saffron-coloured powder (gulal).

The internal divisions within the BJP, particularly the discord between BJP legislators Sudhir Mungantiwar and Kishor Jorgewar, significantly aided Congress in gaining political traction.

Despite attempts by party leadership to mediate, Mungantiwar and Jorgewar were unable to reconcile, leading to a detrimental impact on the party's morale.

Mungantiwar's call for a revamp of the electoral process provided Congress with further ammunition to criticize the State Election Commission regarding the election management.

Meanwhile, Congress exhibited unity and leveraged its success in the recent Chandrapur nagar parishad and nagar panchayat elections.

Addressing the election results, Wadettiwar asserted that the public's rejection of the BJP stemmed from its ‘arrogance of power, false promises, and corrupt policies.’

He emphasized that the citizens of Chandrapur had placed their faith in Congress for development, transparency, and public welfare.

“The populace's discontent with the BJP over issues such as inflation, unemployment, water shortages, waste management failures, and multi-crore scams is evident. This result unmistakably reflects public outrage,” he stated.

Current data indicates that Congress is poised to form the local government.

While the party has officially secured 28 seats, Wadettiwar outlined the coalition dynamics for achieving a majority: Congress with 28 seats, Jan Vikas Sena with three seats (allied with Congress), two seats for Independents (rebels returning to Congress), and Shiv Sena (UBT) with six seats. With support from over 40 corporators, he declared that the next Mayor of Chandrapur would be from Congress.

During a victory rally, accompanied by the energetic beats of dhol-tasha, Wadettiwar congratulated the newly elected corporators.

He reminded them that this victory transcends mere power acquisition; it represents a significant responsibility. He assured the residents of Chandrapur that the incoming administration would provide a transparent, accountable, and citizen-focused government, prioritizing the resolution of each citizen’s concerns.
