Continued Bulldozer Operations Against Illegal Encroachments in Sambhal, UP

Sambhal, Jan 11 (NationPress) The district administration in Uttar Pradesh's Sambhal has escalated its efforts to reclaim and safeguard the region's historical and cultural heritage. As part of this ongoing mission, illegal encroachments near the Pap Mochan Tirtha area were dismantled on Saturday during a coordinated operation that included multiple departments.
This operation, led by Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Vandana Mishra, focused on removing encroachments at the Pap Mochan Tirtha and Holika Dahan Sthal situated in Tiwari Sarai on Bahjoi Road under the jurisdiction of Sadar Kotwali. The team, comprising municipal and revenue officials, employed heavy machinery like JCBs to eliminate unauthorized structures.
During this action, numerous illegal shops and temporary structures that had proliferated around the sacred sites were demolished. The municipal team played an essential role in clearing the area, ensuring that encroachments do not compromise the sanctity and accessibility of these religious landmarks.
In a statement regarding the operation, SDM Vandana Mishra remarked: “Encroachments on the Holika Dahan site behind this pilgrimage area have been eradicated. Strict legal action will ensue against those who have unlawfully occupied these lands.”
This crackdown followed an inspection on Friday by District Magistrate (DM) Dr Rajendra Pensia and Superintendent of Police (SP) Krishnan Vishnoi, who identified several illegal structures and issued directives for their swift removal.
The DM emphasized the significance of protecting the district's heritage through persistent and decisive measures.
Moreover, in addition to the Pap Mochan Tirtha, the administration also eliminated encroachments near the Munni Mata Temple in Tiwari Sarai. Bamboo barricades and temporary structures were dismantled. Some residents sought additional time to vacate, but the demolition proceeded as scheduled, with many voluntarily removing their belongings to prevent damage.
To further enhance preservation efforts, the DM announced plans to map significant heritage sites throughout Sambhal; install appropriate signage to improve accessibility and awareness for devotees and tourists; and promote the district’s rich historical and cultural legacy through targeted initiatives.
The administration has reiterated that reclaiming religious and historical sites from encroachment is vital for maintaining the spiritual and cultural identity of the region.
