New Delhi, Dec 2 (NationPress) Congress MP Renuka Chowdhury ignited a significant political controversy on Tuesday by claiming that the Armed Forces are being coerced into representing the Central government, labeling it as a critical issue of contemporary times.
Her shocking assertions prompted a swift backlash from the BJP, which accused her of belittling the valor of the nation’s heroes and demanded an apology.
While addressing IANS inside the Parliament premises, Congress Rajya Sabha member Renuka Chowdhury stated, “The most alarming situation today is that, for the first time, Army leaders are publicly defending the government, claiming they are under pressure to represent the government. They are being intimidated and compelled to act as the government’s spokesperson.”
“This situation warrants investigation,” she insisted, emphasizing her connection as a daughter of Army veterans.
Her comments have stirred a considerable political uproar, with the BJP strongly condemning her “absurd and trivial” statements, while also insisting that she apologize for her perceived insult to the Armed Forces.
BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala criticized Congress for its history of undermining the valor of the Armed Forces, recalling several instances of Congress leaders making disparaging remarks about the Army and questioning military operations such as the Surgical and Balakot strikes.
“It was Renuka Chowdhury and her party that doubted the legitimacy of Operation Sindoor and Operation Mahadev, failing to recognize and commend our forces for their bravery,” he asserted.
Poonawala noted multiple occasions when Congress leaders have insulted the Armed Forces, reiterating their claims of being pressured and harassed.
On a lighter note, just a day prior, Renuka Chowdhury made headlines for bringing her pet dog to the Parliament complex and allegedly making jibes at fellow parliamentarians.
When asked if bringing a dog violated parliamentary protocol, she responded that the dog was harmless and merely accompanying her.
“Those who bite are seated inside the Parliament,” she reportedly quipped, igniting a strong backlash from the BJP.
