New Delhi, Aug 1 (NationPress) The CBI has charged the former MD of Lok Nayak Hospital, along with the previous CMO of the Delhi government hospital and two officials from private companies, in a corruption case concerning the procurement of medicines and surgical supplies, according to an official statement released on Friday.
Dr. Suresh Kumar, the former MD of Lok Nayak Hospital (LNH), Dr. Hem Prakash, the previous Procurement Officer and CMO of LNH, Suresh Kumar Chaudhary, the Proprietor of M/s Adison Equipment Company, and Mayank Parashar, the Proprietor of M/s S.R. Surgical, along with unidentified public servants from Lok Nayak Hospital, have been implicated under legal provisions for conspiracy and breach of trust, which allegedly resulted in a loss of crores to the government, the official noted.
A preliminary investigation by the CBI, which led to the filing of the FIR on July 30, found that Local Authorized Chemist M/s S.R. Surgical colluded with Dr. Hem Prakash, the then Procurement Officer, and other unidentified officials of the hospital, leading to significant financial loss to the government by demanding and supplying branded medicines instead of generic ones, despite there being no specific requirement for branded medicines from particular wards or departments of LNH from 2018 to 2021.
The FIR indicated that the inquiry preliminarily revealed that unjust benefits were provided to M/s Adison Equipment Company by Dr. Suresh Kumar, MD, and other unidentified officials of Lok Nayak Hospital by unjustifiably extending the rate contract of M/s Adison Equipment Company over time and purchasing eight inferior-quality macerators at inflated prices compared to available superior-quality options, thereby causing wrongful loss to the government and wrongful gain to M/s Adison Equipment Company.
In a separate incident, Special Judge, Anti-Corruption, CBI Court, Ghaziabad, on Friday convicted and sentenced Rakesh Babu Garg, the former Executive Engineer (C), CPWD, New Delhi, to three years of Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) along with a fine of Rs. 50,000 in a Disproportionate Assets (DA) case.
The DA case was initiated based on the recovery of incriminating documents and items against Garg in a trap case dated October 13.
Garg was apprehended on October 18, 2010, and during interrogation, he disclosed accepting a bribe and guided the CBI team, including independent witnesses, to Agra, where Rs 85 lakh was recovered at his direction.
Consequently, the DA Case was registered on August 8, 2011, against Garg on grounds of possessing substantial disproportionate assets beyond his known income sources.
Garg's assets were found to be disproportionate to the extent of Rs 87.53 lakh against his income of Rs 35 lakh during the verification period.
Following the investigation, the CBI filed a chargesheet on December 18, 2012, and a total of 54 witnesses were examined on behalf of the prosecution during the trial.
