Guwahati, June 20 (NationPress) In a remarkable event that instilled pride across the North Eastern Region, Prof. Ramesh Chandra Deka, the Vice Chancellor of Cotton University, has been officially awarded the honorary title of Colonel and designated as Colonel Commandant in the National Cadet Corps (NCC) during a ceremonial Rank Pipping event held at the university campus, as reported by officials on Friday.
This esteemed recognition was bestowed by the Centre in appreciation of Prof. Ramesh Chandra Deka's exceptional contributions to youth development and his unwavering support for NCC initiatives.
Importantly, he is recognized as the only Vice Chancellor in the North Eastern Region (NER) to obtain this honor in the year 2025.
The ceremony was graced by senior NCC officials, including Brig Ajit Kumar Borah, VSM, Group Commander of NCC Group Headquarters, Guwahati; Col Ajay Kumar Sharma, Commanding Officer of 60 Assam Girls Battalion NCC; and Wg Cdr Huvey Upadhyaya, SC, Commanding Officer of 50 Assam Air Squadron NCC, Guwahati.
A certificate from the Director General of NCC (DGNCC) and a DO letter were also presented during this memorable occasion. NCC cadets from 60 Assam Girls Battalion NCC and 50 Assam Air Squadron NCC gathered in large numbers to witness this proud moment.
The event showcased a meticulously organized ceremonial sequence, with cadet MCs serving as anchors, highlighting the discipline, excitement, and pride of the NCC community.
In his address, Brig. Ajit Kumar Borah, VSM, commended Prof. Deka’s steadfast support for the NCC.
