Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Damoh, April 3 (NationPress) - In a devastating road mishap, two young cousins tragically lost their lives when a speeding truck collided with their motorcycle on the Damoh-Pathariya route while they were transporting a cooking gas cylinder.
The deceased have been identified as Jay Srivastava (son of Sandeep Srivastava), a resident of Teen Gulli, Damoh, and Prabal Srivastava (son of Pradeep Srivastava), who lived in Pathariya.
Both individuals were heading back after collecting a gas cylinder when the incident occurred near Khojakhedi, situated between Damoh and Pathariya.
According to law enforcement officials, the speeding truck struck their motorcycle from behind with intense impact, propelling both young men onto the roadway. They suffered severe injuries and were immediately taken to the District Hospital in Damoh by local bystanders.
Unfortunately, medical personnel pronounced both young men dead upon arrival.
The cousins were riding together with the gas cylinder mounted on their motorcycle.
In a statement to IANS, an investigative officer from Damoh (Rural area) expressed that this was a particularly tragic event.
He elaborated that the truck driver fled the scene immediately after the collision without rendering assistance to the victims.
The police have initiated a case against the unknown driver for rash and negligent driving, leading to death through negligence.
Authorities are currently reviewing CCTV footage and gathering eyewitness accounts from the vicinity. They have not yet determined whether it was a head-on collision as neither of the victims survived to provide their account.
The officer cautioned that transporting a heavy gas cylinder on a motorcycle is extremely hazardous, particularly during nighttime.
He emphasized, “The force of the collision was so significant that both young men had no chance of survival. We urge the public to refrain from carrying heavy or dangerous items, such as gas cylinders, on two-wheelers. This not only jeopardizes their lives but also endangers the lives of others on the road.”
The police have commenced a thorough investigation and are searching the route for potential CCTV evidence to identify the fleeing truck.
A case has been registered against the unidentified truck driver under applicable sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Motor Vehicles Act.
