Cow Smuggler Arrested in Two Police Encounters in Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow, Dec 21 (NationPress) Two distinct police encounters in Uttar Pradesh’s Jaunpur and Mathura culminated in the apprehension of cow smugglers, one of whom was a wanted criminal with a reward issued for his capture.

In Jaunpur, the Machhli Shahr and Sujanganj police executed a collaborative operation late Friday night to detain the cow smugglers.

During the early hours of Saturday, an encounter transpired where one smuggler was shot in the leg and apprehended, while his accomplice managed to escape.

CO Vivek Kumar reported that the police were conducting routine checks when two men on a motorcycle attempted to flee from them.

"A pursuit ensued, resulting in the suspects being cornered. They fired upon the police, prompting a return fire that injured one of the suspects. The wounded smuggler was captured and taken to a government hospital for medical care. Police seized a motorcycle, a pistol, and live ammunition from the site," he stated.

In a separate incident in Mathura, police arrested a wanted cow smuggler, Tariq, during an encounter in the Dhaurera forest region under the Jait police station late Friday night.

Tariq, hailing from Deeg in Rajasthan, had been evading capture since 2021 and was subject to a bounty of Rs 25,000. He faced charges of slaughtering cows, which had ignited protests from cow protection organizations demanding his arrest.

During the operation in Mathura, Tariq was also shot in the leg and apprehended. A police constable was injured in the crossfire and is presently receiving medical attention alongside Tariq.

CO Sandeep Singh affirmed that the police recovered a firearm, ammunition, and a motorcycle from Tariq. He stressed that this arrest marks a crucial step, as Tariq had been eluding law enforcement for several years.

All injured parties, including the suspect from Jaunpur, are currently receiving medical treatment, and investigations are continuing in both cases.
