Gurugram: Trio of Criminals Captured Following Shootout

Gurugram, Jan 2 (NationPress) A team from the Gurugram Police's crime branch successfully arrested a well-known criminal and his two accomplices following a shootout on the night transitioning from Tuesday to Wednesday, as reported by authorities.

The suspects have been identified as Arif (28), Arif alias Mandal (27), who hails from Palwal, and Rashid alias Yusuf alias Kake (33), a resident of Nuh.

According to police records, Rashid is linked to 49 criminal cases, which include gang-related offenses, murder, attempted murder, robbery, assaults on police personnel, and thefts from ATMs.

Additionally, Arif alias Mandal faces charges in two cases of attempted murder and cow smuggling, while the other Arif is implicated in one case of cow smuggling, as per police statements.

On the night in question, crime branch teams from Farrukhnagar and Sohna received intelligence about a cow theft involving a canter from the village of Ullawas in the Sector-65 area of Gurugram.

During their investigation, the police teams spotted the canter near Medwas village, loaded with two cows. When officers signaled for the driver to halt, he accelerated in an attempt to flee.

The police pursued the canter and managed to encircle it near Medwas, at which point the suspects exited the vehicle and opened fire on the police party, striking the windows of the police vehicle. Despite warnings and shots fired into the air from the police, the suspects continued their assault. In response, police fired back in self-defense, injuring the legs of two suspects, according to Varun Dahiya, ACP (crime).

Ultimately, the trio was apprehended at the scene, and the injured were taken to the hospital for medical attention.

A case has been registered against the three accused under applicable laws at the Sector-65 Police Station.

During the exchange of gunfire, a total of 10 rounds were discharged, with the accused firing four rounds and the police six. The police recovered the canter used by the suspects, a country-made pistol, a second pistol, a live cartridge, 10 spent shell casings, one cow, and a calf, as reported by Dahiya.

The canter employed in the crime was reported stolen from the Bilaspur police station in the Gurugram area on December 24, while the cow and calf were taken from a dairy in Ullawas.

In 2009, Rashid, along with his accomplices, was involved in a cow smuggling incident in Gurugram that resulted in the death of a police officer. Currently, both Rashid and Arif are receiving medical care, and after their discharge from the hospital, they will be formally arrested in connection with the aforementioned case and subjected to thorough interrogation, as stated by Dahiya.
