Gurugram, April 6 (NationPress) A specialized unit of the Gurugram Police apprehended a fugitive with a Rs 20,000 reward on his head following a shootout on Farrukhnagar-Jhajjar Road, authorities reported on Sunday.
The suspect has been identified as Sumit (22) from Kheda Khurrampur village in Gurugram.
An official disclosed that the police recovered one motorcycle, one pistol, one live cartridge, and four spent shell casings from the suspect’s possession.
The police team received intel about the suspect traveling on his motorcycle towards Kheda Khurampur from Jhajjar-Farrukhnagar Road while armed with an illegal firearm.
After obtaining this critical information, they established a police checkpoint on the road to apprehend the fugitive.
“Upon reaching the location, the police attempted to halt him, but he fired upon the officers, striking the bulletproof vest of one officer. In defense, the police returned fire, hitting the suspect, who subsequently fell and was taken into custody by the police team. The suspect was promptly transported to Civil Hospital for medical care,” a spokesperson for the Gurugram Police remarked.
During the exchange of gunfire, a total of eight shots were fired; four by the suspect and four by the police.
The spokesperson noted that subsequent to the shootout, a team from the Farukhnagar Police Station arrived at the scene.
“The fingerprint team was also alerted, and an examination of the site was conducted,” he added.
A legal case has been filed against the suspect under the appropriate sections at Farukhnagar Police Station, Gurugram.
“The accused was involved in the murder of a young man named Rohit, a resident of Kheda Khurrampur. He had been on the run, prompting a reward of Rs 20,000 to be offered for information leading to his capture,” he shared.
The spokesperson also mentioned that in connection with Rohit’s murder, another suspect named Harsh has already been detained.
