Officials identified the suspect as Satyapriya Saini, a native of Dehradun, Uttarakhand, who had been on the run since 2020.
According to the report, Saini was responsible for the murder of Satyaveer Singh Malik, a sub-inspector in the Cooperative Department, in January 2021.
The Gurugram Police had previously set a ₹20,000 reward for information leading to his capture; additionally, they had apprehended his female accomplice earlier in 2021.
The authorities noted that Saini was also wanted in connection with the murder of a woman, linked to the Udyog Vihar Police Station area in Gurugram in 2020.
A police team, led by Sub-Inspector Lalit Kumar, managed to arrest the fugitive in Dehradun on Friday and subsequently placed him in police custody after presenting him to the court.
The police had received a tip-off on January 13, 2021, about a body found near a vehicle close to the Polytechnic College along the service road towards Panchgaon on NH-48.
Upon arrival, officers notified the victim's family and rushed the victim to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Following a complaint from the victim's son, the police initiated an investigation; however, an autopsy later led to the addition of murder charges to the FIR at the Manesar police station.
During questioning, investigators uncovered that Satyapriya, alongside his female accomplice, had murdered the victim over a financial disagreement by running him over with a pickup truck at her instigation, attempting to disguise the act as an accident. Furthermore, Satyapriya confessed to killing another woman, identified as Laxmi, in 2020 and disposing of her body in Roorkee, which was also under the jurisdiction of Udyog Vihar police station in Gurugram.
