Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 24 (NationPress) The CPI criticized its own administration in Kerala on Friday following the State Education Secretary's agreement on the PM SHRI (Prime Minister’s School for Rising India) initiative with the Central government.
Initially responding to the situation, CPI Rajya Sabha member Santhosh Kumar likened it to a football goalkeeper scoring an own goal.
“This is undoubtedly a breach of the policies and principles upheld by the Left Democratic Front, and we remain in the dark about the details, as the only information available is from the media reporting the signing of the pact. Our party leadership, both in Kerala and nationally, is currently deliberating this breach,” stated Santhosh Kumar.
The CPI is particularly vexed that neither the cabinet nor the LDF's supreme decision-making entity, the liaison committee, was consulted, as per Kumar, who noted that the entire situation has been shrouded in secrecy.
As the second-largest partner in the ruling Pinarayi Vijayan-led Left government, the CPI has consistently voiced objections to the scheme, raising concerns in cabinet meetings on three occasions. During their meeting on October 22, the CPI Ministers addressed this issue, but CM Vijayan remained unresponsive.
Following the news of the MOU, the Congress party mocked the CPI. Senior Congress leader Cherian Phillip remarked that the CPI was a "rare creature that only barks but never bites".
“Those pretending to uphold ideals wag their tails in the presence of their master, even re-accepting what they once rejected. For the last 45 years, the CPI has surrendered its power to the A.K.G. Centre (the CPI(M) state headquarters). If the CPI genuinely opposes the PM SHRI scheme, they should cut ties with the CPI(M). They must also clarify their stance on the clandestine agreement between the CPI(M) and the BJP,” remarked Phillip.
Currently, CM Vijayan is on a tour in the Middle East, and State Education Minister V. Sivankutty is scheduled to address the media later in the evening, with expectations that state and national CPI leaders will reveal their position.
K. Rajan, the top CPI leader in the state cabinet, indicated he would refrain from commenting at this time.
Prior to entering a meeting to discuss this matter, CPI General Secretary D. Raja stated he would provide comments later.
