Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 29 (NationPress) The discord within Kerala's ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) regarding the controversial PM SHRI scheme appears to have subsided, as the major front player CPI-M has yielded to the CPI's firm stance and has chosen to follow the compromise route proposed by its junior partner.
After a period of tension that could have divided the Front, the state administration is now getting ready to dispatch a letter to the Centre indicating a suspension and a potential withdrawal from the scheme.
General Secretary of the Communist Party of India, D. Raja, informed reporters in Delhi that the PM SHRI matter has been resolved for now.
"All four ministers from our party will be present at the cabinet meeting later today. Following the meeting, CM (Pinarayi) Vijayan will inform the public about the decision. We are against the notion of the NEP (National Education Policy) and cannot proceed with it. The state government will also relay this issue to the Centre," he stated.
As part of this agreement, a joint committee from the Left will be established to analyze the PM SHRI project thoroughly, after which a conclusive decision will be reached.
This action is part of CPI-M's strategy to placate the CPI, which has criticized the Centre's educational initiative, citing its ties to the NEP.
The upcoming letter to be sent will request that the memorandum of understanding (MoU) established under the scheme be put on hold.
A copy of this letter will also be provided to the CPI.
However, the ultimate decision lies with the Union government.
A Left Democratic Front meeting will soon be organized to ratify this action.
The CPI-M's reconsideration is crucial as it comes amid the CPI's ongoing objections and warnings of political repercussions if the administration moves forward with the agreement. The CPI has cautioned that its ministers would be absent from Wednesday's cabinet meeting.
Meanwhile, CPI-M General Secretary M.A. Baby engaged in discussions with his CPI counterpart Raja following talks with state leaders.
National leaders from both parties, as sources suggest, have also intervened, indicating optimism for a favorable resolution.
It is believed that if the government officially communicates its political stance through the proposed letter, the CPI will ease its demands.
The CPI-M's top officials convened earlier at the AKG Centre and resolved to send the communication to the Centre.
This event signifies the resolution of one of the most critical internal conflicts faced by the LDF in recent history.
The CPI's hardline approach, reminiscent of its 2017 Cabinet boycott regarding the Thomas Chandy situation, had unsettled the coalition.
By consenting to the CPI's request to suspend the PM SHRI agreement, the CPI-M leadership has effectively de-escalated the conflict and ensured the participation of all four CPI ministers in this evening's Cabinet meeting.
