Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, Nov 5 (NationPress) In just two days, a remarkable 1.10 crore enumeration forms have been handed out to voters during the initial phase of the three-stage special intensive revision (SIR) conducted by the Election Commission of India (ECI) in West Bengal, which commenced on Tuesday.
Since Tuesday morning, the Booth Level Officers (BLOs) have been visiting voters' homes to distribute these forms, and by 8 p.m. on Wednesday, approximately 1.10 crore enumeration forms were confirmed distributed by a source from the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), West Bengal.
According to the insider from the CEO’s office, “All activities related to SIR are proceeding smoothly and as scheduled in West Bengal.”
As of October 27, 2025, out of a total of 7,66,37,529 electors in West Bengal's electoral roll, voters who were present in the last intensive revision of the electoral roll in 2002 need only to fill out the enumeration forms with their details and submit them.
They are not required to provide any additional supporting documents to maintain their names on the electoral roll. The previous SIR in West Bengal took place in 2002.
For voters whose names or their parents' names were not included in the 2002 list, it is necessary to submit one of the 11 documents specified by the Commission to keep their names on the voter list.
As per a Supreme Court directive, the Aadhaar card has been added as the 12th document; however, the Commission has clarified that presenting the Aadhaar card alone is insufficient, and the voter must provide one additional document from the 11 specified.
The SIR process is anticipated to be completed by March next year, ahead of the significant Assembly elections scheduled for West Bengal next year.
