Are Six Indian Golfers Ready to Compete for LIV Golf League Spots in Singapore?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Singapore, Nov 5 (NationPress) Miguel Tabuena has revealed that just over two weeks ago, the opportunity to participate in the LIV Golf League was "nowhere near my radar."
However, everything shifted when he clinched victory at the International Series Philippines presented by BingoPlus, marking one of his nation's most significant sporting achievements, propelling him to second place in The International Series Rankings.
Currently, Tabuena is positioned behind Zimbabwe's Scott Vincent, with only two events remaining: this week's Moutai Singapore Open and the upcoming PIF Saudi International.
At the time of Tabuena's victory, only the top-ranked player qualified for the league, but recent announcements now allow the top two to qualify for next year.
Additionally, two more spots will be available from the third edition of the LIV Golf Promotions event early next year, making this an essential week for all competitors in The International Series Rankings.
The leading 10 exempt players among the top 20 in the Rankings will advance directly to round two of the event, scheduled to take place at Black Diamond Ranch in Lecanto, Florida, from January 8-11, with the next 25 players from the top 40 earning spots in the first round.
A total of six Indian golfers are competing for these vital points. Gaganjeet Bhullar is currently ranked 30 and is thus eligible for a first-round spot, while S.S.P. Chawrasia, Shiv Kapur, Chikkarangappa S., Ajeetesh Sandhu, and Viraj Madappa are aiming for a strong performance this weekend in Singapore.
At a press conference prior to the Moutai Singapore Open, Tabuena stated: "Yeah, was nowhere near my radar before the Philippines, for sure. But after that week at home, it certainly is."
"Now, (qualifying for LIV Golf) is not something I have to force. It’s about adhering to your game plan, your process, and letting it unfold naturally on the golf course."
England's Paul Casey, a LIV Golf star playing alongside Anirban Lahiri for Crushers GC, has witnessed the talent vying for those two lucrative spots on the LIV Golf League next season, as he shared two rounds with Tabuena at the Link Hong Kong Open.
Commenting on Tabuena's impressive performance, Casey remarked, "I have seen Miguel's career progress and his golf game has matured immensely. He started strong with three birdies in his first three holes. I see no weaknesses in his game."
Regarding the race for the two spots on LIV Golf and the additional opportunities from the LIV Golf Promotions event, he added: "I find that aspect fascinating. I love that there are two spots up for grabs. It’s a season-long race that adds excitement to the sport."
The Moutai Singapore Open will take place from November 6-9 at the Singapore Island Country Club.
