Kolkata, Feb 25 (NationPress) The new leadership of CPI(M) in West Bengal will be revealed on Tuesday, concluding the 27th state conference at Dankuni in Hooghly district, which commenced on February 22.

The establishment of the new state committee is pivotal, as it will steer the party and the CPI(M)-led Left Front into the West Bengal Assembly elections scheduled for 2026.

This morning will see the last meeting of the current committee, culminating in the announcement of the new committee.

Speculations abound regarding which members from the existing state committee will be replaced and who will be inducted into the new committee.

“The aim is to create an ideal mix of experienced organizational leaders and new talents. It is also essential to select individuals who will lead grassroots party workers effectively and assume responsibility during crises,” stated a central committee member from West Bengal.

Political analysts suggest that the new state committee must prepare for two scenarios: contesting independently in 2026 or maintaining the alliance with Congress, initiated during the 2016 state Assembly elections.

A decision on this matter is anticipated at the upcoming Party Congress in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, this April. However, early indications suggest the party's central leadership may favor the independent contest option, as indicated in the draft resolution for the upcoming congress.

This draft resolution, released in Delhi earlier this month, emphasizes a focus on independent political strategies rather than electoral alliances.

“The party must prioritize independent political campaigns and mass mobilization centered around our political platform. We should not compromise our independent identity or activities for the sake of electoral alliances,” stated excerpts from the draft political resolution, a copy of which is at IANS.

Regarding maintaining its independent stance, the draft resolution cautiously referenced the situations in Tripura and West Bengal, where the CPI(M)-led Left Front previously engaged in electoral understanding and seat-sharing.

“A notable increase in party strength necessitates the rebuilding and expansion of the party and the Left in West Bengal and Tripura. In West Bengal, while conducting mass struggles, special focus should be on mobilizing the rural poor and organizing them. The party needs to intensify its political and ideological battle against the BJP while opposing both TMC and BJP,” the draft political resolution for West Bengal emphasized.
