Will BJP Announce a New State Committee in West Bengal Soon?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, Nov 5 (NationPress) The preparations for establishing the new BJP state committee in West Bengal are reaching their conclusion, and the unveiling of the new panel is anticipated by the end of next week.
A member of the existing state committee mentioned that the BJP’s central observer for West Bengal, Sunil Bansal, is set to meet with the party's newly-elected state president and Rajya Sabha member, Samik Bhattacharya, in Kolkata on November 7.
“During this meeting, the roster of members for the new state committee will be finalized. Following that, Bhattacharya will return to New Delhi next week with the finalized list to obtain approval from the party's central leadership. Subsequently, the announcement regarding the new state committee will be made, likely from the national capital,” said the state committee member.
Although Bhattacharya refrained from providing specifics, he expressed optimism about the new state committee being formed and announced by mid-November.
“The selection criteria for the new state committee members will prioritize dedicated and proactive leaders who demonstrate unwavering loyalty to the party,” he noted.
The BJP’s central leadership has emphasized that, with a few exceptions, most members of the new state committee would be individuals committed to the organization, focusing on strengthening the party rather than seeking electoral positions.
The new state committee will consist of 31 members, and the party's central leadership has instructed the state unit to ensure that -- except for a few exceptions -- the majority concentrate exclusively on organizational work and refrain from contesting elections.
“Bansal is particularly focused on establishing a committee solely devoted to enhancing the organization,” reported a current BJP state committee member, according to insiders.
Exceptions will be made for current state committee members who are already elected public representatives and retained in the new lineup.
However, a state committee member indicated that the central leadership has clearly stated that all new inductees must concentrate solely on organizational activities and avoid running for elections.
