Kolkata, Jan 7 (NationPress) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has officially appointed 34 individuals to its newly formed state committee in West Bengal as of Wednesday.
Samik Bhattacharya, a member of the Rajya Sabha, was previously elected as the state president of West Bengal last year.
On this day, the names of the 34 committee members were revealed.
This new committee comprises 12 vice-presidents, five general secretaries, 12 secretaries, one treasurer, two joint treasurers, one office secretary, and one joint office secretary.
In addition, the BJP unveiled the leaders of three affiliated Morchas (mass organizations) on the same day.
The announcement of the new state committee coincides with the arrival of J.P. Nadda, the BJP's national president and Union Minister for Health, in Kolkata on Wednesday evening.
Union Minister Nadda is set to preside over a significant meeting with the new state committee on Thursday afternoon, where he will likely discuss the party's strategy for the upcoming Assembly elections in West Bengal.
Among the notable figures among the 12 vice-presidents are former Lok Sabha member and Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nishith Pramanik, fashion designer-turned-politician and party legislator Agnimitra Paul, Lok Sabha member Manoj Tigga, party legislator Dipak Burman, and journalist-turned-politician Jagannath Chattopadhyay.
Key names among the five new general secretaries include Lok Sabha members Saumitra Khan and Jyotirmoy Singh Mahato, along with actress-turned-politician and former Lok Sabha member Locket Chatterjee.
Shankar Ghosh, the Chief Whip of the BJP's legislative party in the West Bengal Assembly, has been appointed as one of the secretaries.
BJP Lok Sabha member Khagen Murmu will chair the party's Scheduled Tribe Morcha in West Bengal, while Dr. Indranil Khan, a medical professional, has been tasked with leading the Party Yuva (youth) Morcha.
Falguni Patra has been appointed as the head of the party's Mahila (Women) Morcha in West Bengal, and Ali Hossain will lead the Minority Morcha.
A member of the new state committee, who also served in the previous committee, commented: "The new state committee's composition considers two key factors: a balanced mix of seasoned BJP members alongside newer recruits, and the inclusion of those who are already elected public representatives. Most members will focus on organizational tasks rather than contesting in elections themselves."
