BJP's Membership Campaign in Bengal: Key Meeting of Party MPs Scheduled Today

Kolkata, Dec 9 (NationPress) Sunil Bansal, the central observer for BJP in West Bengal, is poised to lead a significant meeting with the party’s elected MPs from the state today in New Delhi. The agenda for this meeting will center around the current membership initiative in West Bengal.
The gathering is set to include 12 Lok Sabha members and 2 Rajya Sabha members representing the state.
As per party insiders, Bansal will present strategies aimed at encouraging MPs from both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha to actively engage in reaching the ambitious goal of registering one crore new members in West Bengal by the end of December. To date, only 25 percent of this target has been achieved.
According to state BJP sources, during the meeting, Bansal is anticipated to devise a plan for the party MPs on how they can effectively contribute to the ongoing effort to recruit new members.
Subsequent to this discussion, Bansal is expected to convene a separate meeting with the BJP’s legislative team in the West Bengal Assembly. A senior party official indicated that Suvendu Adhikari, the Leader of the Opposition in the state assembly, may play a vital role in advancing the membership initiative.
Additional sources revealed that the meeting will stress the importance of strengthening the party’s grassroots framework, particularly at the booth level, in anticipation of the pivotal 2026 state assembly elections.
“A recent internal assessment pointed out deficiencies in effectively utilizing key issues against the state government and ruling party. This was clearly reflected in the unsatisfactory results from last month’s bypolls in six Assembly constituencies,” stated a state committee member who wished to remain anonymous.
Bansal is expected to urge the state leadership to tackle these challenges and concentrate on organizational consolidation promptly to ensure improved outcomes in the forthcoming assembly elections.
