Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Jan 27 (NationPress) Janata Dal(U) National Spokesperson Rajeev Ranjan Prasad stated on Tuesday that recent comments from DMK leaders have revealed increasing divisions within the Congress-led INDIA bloc. He argued that this opposition alliance is progressively losing public backing and internal unity.
In an interview with IANS, Rajeev Ranjan remarked, “This statement from a Congress leader clearly indicates that the partnership between Congress and its allies under DMK's leadership is starting to fracture. The risk of a significant electoral setback is looming over them.”
He accused Congress of experiencing a sharp decline in public support, while a “robust coalition” led by the Bharatiya Janata Party, alongside AIADMK, PMK, and other factions, is rising to contest the ruling government in Tamil Nadu.
These comments followed remarks from DMK Madurai district secretary G. Thalapathi, who recently criticized Congress for pursuing a larger share of power in Tamil Nadu despite its weak organizational presence in the region.
Thalapathi highlighted that the INDIA bloc was formed through the efforts of leaders such as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, and Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav, accusing Congress of prioritizing self-interest over electoral viability.
In a sharp response, JD(U) MP Dileshwar Kamait claimed that Congress is “on the brink of political extinction.” He noted, “They are left with just four MLAs in Bihar, and even those are abandoning ship. Their political presence is on the verge of elimination,” asserting that the party has lost the confidence of both voters and its own legislators.
Meanwhile, Thalapathi also cautioned against the BJP's attempts to broaden its influence in Tamil Nadu and commended Chief Minister Stalin for his steadfast stance on Tamil identity and the rights of the state. He emphasized that DMK leadership remains the key opposition to BJP in Tamil Nadu.
