Mumbai, July 10 (NationPress) Maharashtra's Minister of State for Agriculture, Ashish Jaiswal, revealed in the state assembly that criminal proceedings will be initiated against all officials and staff implicated in the embezzlement or fraudulent activity concerning the financial aid allocated to farmers impacted by natural disasters.

His statement came as a response to a debate initiated by Santosh Danve regarding a staggering Rs 42 crore fraud linked to financial assistance for farmers from Ambad and Ghansangwi in Jalna district.

Minister Jaiswal emphasized, "The misconduct associated with aid to farmers is a grave offense. The state government has acknowledged this issue and will enforce strict penalties against those responsible. Furthermore, we will recover the misappropriated funds from the salaries of the implicated individuals. Immediate suspension orders will be issued, and comprehensive departmental inquiries will be conducted within a designated timeframe."

He informed the assembly that a district-level committee had conducted an investigation, leading to the suspension of 21 Talathis and clerks found guilty. A departmental inquiry is also set to take place against 36 additional Talathis and clerks. Notices have been issued to 45 Village Development Officers and 24 Agricultural Assistants, with ongoing investigations by the relevant appointing authority.

He further noted that the accountability of the then Tehsildars of the implicated talukas will be evaluated in light of this misappropriation case. A detailed report has been requested from the District Collector.

Jaiswal assured that no eligible farmer impacted by natural disasters would be deprived of necessary assistance, and measures will be implemented to prevent any fraudulent activities related to aid for farmers. Vigilance will also be heightened in other districts to ensure compliance.

In parallel, Minister Jaiswal stated that the government is actively working to thwart malpractices within government schemes.

The General Administration Department will be tasked with developing a new operational framework to impose stringent actions against officers and employees involved in such malfeasance.

This framework will include provisions for severe penalties, extending beyond mere suspension of those guilty.

Minister Jaiswal shared this information as part of his response to a calling attention motion raised by Rajesh Pawar.

He concluded by mentioning that the state government is actively engaged in numerous schemes to foster sustainable development for farmers. Micro irrigation initiatives have been rolled out in Nanded district under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchan Yojana and Nanaji Deshmukh Krishi Sanjeevani Project Yojana. The government is taking irregularities in this scheme seriously, having conducted inquiries. Out of 22 officials and employees implicated in these irregularities and the embezzlement of government funds, eight C-class employees have been suspended, and two B-class officers are set for suspension within the next eight days.
