Criticism of Karnataka Government by Ashoka: Discrepancies in Action Against Leaders

Bengaluru, Dec 6 (NationPress) Opposition leader in the Karnataka Assembly, R. Ashoka, expressed his discontent with the state government, questioning the rationale behind the swift action against a Vokkaliga seer who advocated for the disenfranchisement of Muslims, while a Muslim leader who disrespected the judiciary faced no repercussions.

During a press conference held in Bengaluru, he stated, “The government promptly responded to Kumara Chandrashekaranatha Swami, the head of the Vishwa Vokkaligara Mahasamsthana Math, for his concerns regarding Waqf land encroachment.”

“In contrast, even after Maulana Abu Talib Rahmani of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board openly declared his disrespect for both Parliament and the judiciary, he has not been subjected to any action,” he asserted.

Rahmani had remarked during a meeting in Bengaluru aimed at opposing the central government's proposed Waqf Bill, “We will not plead before courts. If the Parliament belongs to you, the streets belong to us?”

Ashoka referred to Shivakumar’s statement post the cooker blast incident in 2022 in Mangaluru, asserting, “This illustrates Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar’s favoritism towards the 'cooker brothers,' as he refrains from taking action against them.”

Ashoka reaffirmed his steadfast support for the Vokkaliga seer.

“Dy CM Shivakumar oscillates between supporting Muslims and Vokkaligas based on his convenience. Home Minister G. Parameshwara is reportedly displeased with Shivakumar’s remarks concerning the Chief Minister's authority and power distribution,” he noted.

The Vokkaliga seer Kumara Chandrashekaranatha Swami had suggested the disenfranchisement of Muslims but later expressed regret over his comments. The Karnataka government has lodged an FIR against the seer and summoned him for questioning. The BJP warned that if the seer is harassed, there will be consequences for the government.

Ashoka also condemned the state government for its apparent double standards.

He claimed, “The individual who defaced the statue of the esteemed seer late Shivakumara Swamiji in Bengaluru might also be regarded as a ‘brother’ by the Congress. Given this situation, one wonders about the treatment of Hindus.”

“While Muslim leaders proclaim their distrust in the judiciary, Congress leaders showcase Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s Constitution as a facade. The law and order situation in the state has completely deteriorated,” he alleged.

Ashoka also criticized the state of Bengaluru’s infrastructure, labeling it the “city of potholes.”

“Not a single road in the city is free of potholes. BBMP commissioners assert they have filled countless potholes, only to later provide conflicting counts. Congress should reveal how much funding BBMP has received under the Brand Bengaluru project instead of merely chanting the 'our taxes, our rights' slogan and targeting the central government. Each Assembly constituency in Bengaluru should be allocated Rs 100 crore in funding,” he demanded.
