Bengaluru, March 3 (NationPress) The BJP in Karnataka organized a protest march on Monday against the Congress-led state government prior to the commencement of the budget session, claiming an insult to Governor Thaawarchand and Raj Bhavan.
Members of the JD(S) also joined the protest.
Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly R. Ashoka, Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, and BJP State President and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra, along with all BJP MLAs and MLCs, marched from the Legislators' Home to Vidhana Soudha.
The demonstrators brandished banners with messages such as 'Shame on the Congress for failing to respect the Governor’s authority even after the High Court upheld it!' and 'Down with the Congress government for diminishing the Governor’s role as Chancellor!' 'Condemnation to the Chief Minister for tarnishing the constitutional office of the Governor!' 'Down with the Congress, which opposes the President, Governor, Judiciary, ED, and CBI!' 'Shame on the Congress government for engaging in low-level politics regarding the Governor!' Armed with these banners, BJP MLAs and MLCs took part in the protest march.
Addressing the media, R. Ashoka remarked that due to the guarantee schemes, the state government has descended to a point where it is nearly begging.
He accused CM Siddaramaiah’s administration of undermining democracy. He further alleged that while the Congress-led Central government has made numerous amendments to the Constitution, the Karnataka government is now trying to restrict the Governor's powers.
The 'Congress-led government is insulting the Governor.' He stated, 'Instead of offering the necessary clarifications on multiple pending bills as requested by the Governor, Congress leaders are falsely accusing him.' Ashoka was referring to the issue regarding the proposed bills being returned by the Governor. 'The same Congress leaders who disrespected the Governor are now compelling him to deliver a speech overflowing with praises for their administration,' he criticized.
“They should feel embarrassed. How can you present a speech to the Governor that glorifies your administration?” Ashoka questioned.
'On one hand, the Congress asserts that the Governor is unjust, yet on the other, they expect him to commend their government during his address to the joint session. In this situation, we have initiated the protest march,' he concluded.
