Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bengaluru, Jan 26 (NationPress) The Karnataka BJP and JD(S), alongside various opposition parties, are set to stage a protest on Tuesday (January 27) at 10.30 a.m. near the statue of Mahatma Gandhi. This demonstration is in response to the purported disrespect shown to Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, as stated by N. Ravikumar, the Chief Whip of the Opposition in the Legislative Council.
During a media briefing on Monday, Ravikumar accused Congress legislators of insulting the Governor within the Assembly Hall at Vidhana Soudha after the joint session concluded. He alleged they pointed fingers, made threatening gestures, and shouted slogans against him.
The Opposition plans to seek the immediate suspension of Congress MLCs B.K. Hariprasad and S. Ravi, as well as Congress MLAs Sharath Bachegowda and Pradeep Eshwar, for their behavior.
Ravikumar also criticized the Congress-led government for failing to arrest party leader Rajeev Gowda after 15 days, who allegedly used derogatory language against Municipality Commissioner Amrutha Gowda, undermining her dignity.
He described the delay in arresting Gowda as deeply concerning and demanded immediate action.
Additionally, he pointed out that Ballari City Congress MLA Bharat Reddy, who allegedly shot at former minister G. Janardhana Reddy's residence and threatened his family's safety, has not been apprehended.
Ravikumar noted that the investigation into this shooting incident hasn't been assigned to the CBI.
He also referenced a recent occurrence where Janardhana Reddy's 'model house' in Ballari was reportedly set ablaze, allegedly involving minors. He called for a comprehensive investigation to find those responsible and insisted on stringent action against the culprits.
Referring to the recent murder of a foreign woman in Koppal district, Ravikumar condemned a Member of Parliament from Koppal who referred to the incident as a 'minor issue.' He stated this incident highlights the ongoing concerns regarding women's safety in Karnataka, marking the second such event involving a foreign woman in the district.
Moreover, he criticized the Congress for organizing a protest regarding the Viksit Bharat - Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) (VB-G RAM G) initiative, claiming that amendments to labor laws have been made to enhance job opportunities for rural residents and daily wage earners nationwide. He alleged that the Congress is disseminating misinformation by suggesting these amendments would take away jobs.
“We will conduct this protest against the Congress, which has turned into a factory of lies,” he declared.
