Cyclone Fengal: Tamil Nadu Activates 16 Disaster Relief Units

Chennai, Nov 30 (NationPress) The Tamil Nadu State Disaster Management Authority (TNSDMA) has activated three disaster relief units specifically for Chennai and an additional 13 units for various districts impacted by Cyclone Fengal.
The TNSDMA has advised residents to refrain from visiting beaches, amusement parks, and any recreational gatherings.
In response to the severe rainfall, the Tamil Nadu Revenue and Disaster Management Department has set up 2,229 relief centers in regions under heavy rain alerts.
At present, 471 individuals from 164 families have been moved to relief camps located in the Thiruvarur and Nagapattinam districts.
Officials have indicated readiness for further evacuations if required.
In a public safety notice, the state government has encouraged IT firms to permit employees to work remotely.
Public transit on East Coast Road (ECR) and Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR) was temporarily halted starting Saturday afternoon.
Residents are strongly advised to remain indoors unless absolutely necessary.
Parks and beaches in Chennai and surrounding areas will remain closed today.
The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) Mayor, R. Priya, has assured the community that the civic body is fully equipped to handle the cyclone and its accompanying heavy rains.
The GCC has issued warnings against parking or standing vehicles beneath trees during severe weather.
Multiple subways in the city, including RBI Subway, Sundaram Point, Rangarajapuram, Palavanthangal, and Gengu Reddy, have been closed due to flooding.
Light vehicles are barred from Duraiswamy and Madley subways. Roads such as Prakasam Salai, G.P. Road, Ritherdon Road, and Alagappa Road have similarly been shut down.
The city and its neighboring regions are experiencing heavy to extremely heavy rainfall due to the influence of Cyclone Fengal. The GCC has reported water accumulation in 12 subways throughout Chennai.
