Tourist Khushbu Mahida said, 'It was very hot back home, but the atmosphere here is pleasant. PM Modi recently visited and spoke about the development here; that prompted us to plan this trip. We have come here with our family for the first time.' She added, 'We have visited Goa, and this place is nothing short of a mini-Goa. The infrastructure and cleanliness here are excellent. It offers DJ nights, attractive lighting, and various adventure activities — all at a budget-friendly price.'

Modi's Visit and Airport Inauguration Fuel Interest

The tourism surge in Daman follows Prime Minister Modi's recent visit, during which he inaugurated a new airport in the territory — a development tourists say has made the destination significantly more accessible. In his address, Modi drew a comparison between Daman and Singapore, describing the territory as advancing rapidly in tourism and overall development.

Tourist Kalpesh Baria noted that the airport inauguration has given a significant boost to local tourism. 'Devka Beach and Jampore Beach have seen impressive development. The nightlife here is fantastic, and we thoroughly enjoyed it. I believe visiting this place is affordable and offers a far better experience than Goa,' Baria remarked.

The 'Mini Goa' Positioning

The informal tag of 'Mini Goa' is gaining traction among visitors, particularly from Gujarat and neighbouring states, who cite Daman's combination of beach culture, nightlife, cleanliness, and relative affordability as differentiators. Unlike Goa, Daman remains comparatively less crowded during peak summer, which visitors say adds to its appeal.

This comes amid a broader push by the Centre to develop Union Territories as tourism anchors, with infrastructure investment in Daman accelerating visibly in recent months. Notably, the destination's growth mirrors patterns seen in other coastal UTs that received concentrated central investment ahead of high-visibility political visits.
