V. Somanna: Davanagere By-Election to Reflect National Sentiment
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Davanagere, April 4 (NationPress) The forthcoming election in the Davanagere South constituency of Karnataka is poised to serve as a barometer for the nation, stated V. Somanna, Union Minister of State for Jal Shakti and Railways, during a press conference on Saturday. He expressed confidence that the BJP candidate, Srinivas Dasakariappa, will emerge victorious.
Somanna remarked, “The Congress party continues to favor the third generation for candidacy. How many more generations do they intend to field in elections?”
He emphasized that the upcoming election is vital for the self-respect and future of minorities, asserting that a BJP victory would be indicative of the country's trajectory. He expressed firm belief in the success of Srinivas Dasakariappa, an engineering graduate.
“There has been a sentiment among the public that only one family wins elections. However, this time, BJP’s victory will address that concern,” he noted.
The minority vote holds significant sway in Davanagere, with voters signaling their intent to send a clear message to Congress.
“Having witnessed numerous elections, I can say that the current political landscape in Davanagere is unprecedented. Everything will be determined on April 9,” he added.
Somanna criticized the lack of development in Davanagere, stating, “This city can no longer be referred to as Karnataka's Manchester. This election is about self-respect. Davanagere requires progress, and a BJP win will facilitate that,” he asserted.
He pointed out that one family believes they are the sole candidates capable of winning, referring to veteran Congress leader Shamanur Shivashankarappa’s lineage. The Congress has nominated Shivashankarappa’s grandson, Samarth Mallikarjun. Samarth's father serves as a cabinet minister, while his mother is a Congress MP.
Somanna acknowledged the significant contributions of former MP G.M. Siddeshwara to Davanagere, asserting that the BJP's victory would continue this trend of development.
“I have accomplished much for the railway sector in Karnataka and initiated numerous projects. However, Siddaramaiah often criticizes my efforts. I invite him to visit my office in Delhi to witness my work,” he stated.
“We have never engaged in appeasement politics. Siddaramaiah should adopt a broader perspective and respect the Chief Minister’s role. Unwarranted criticism of the Prime Minister and Union Ministers must cease,” he concluded.
