What to Expect at the Delhi Assembly's Speakers’ Conference on Aug 24-25?

New Delhi, Aug 11 (NationPress) The agenda for the upcoming All-India Speakers’ Conference at the Delhi Assembly on August 24-25 will prominently feature discussions regarding the contributions of pre-Independence Central Legislative Assembly leaders in the freedom movement, social reforms, and the implications of Artificial Intelligence on transparency. An official announcement was made on Monday.

Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta indicated that the event will be inaugurated by Union Home Minister Amit Shah and will include a keynote address by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. The conference will also showcase an exhibition and the screening of a specially commissioned documentary that celebrates Vitthalbhai Patel’s significant contributions to the Constitution, parliamentary institutions, his impactful life, and his role in India’s quest for independence.

Gupta stated, “The Delhi Legislative Assembly is the first Parliament in India that became a platform where revolutionaries and national leaders voiced the call for freedom that resonated throughout the country.”

The thematic sessions will cover critical topics, including: the contributions of pre-Independence Central Legislative Assembly leaders in the freedom struggle and social reforms; the relationship between Artificial Intelligence and governmental transparency, accountability, and trust; as well as India’s identity as the Mother of Democracy.

Gupta noted that 32 Speakers and Deputy Speakers from State Legislative Assemblies, along with Chairmen and Deputy Chairmen from State Legislative Councils across India, have confirmed their attendance.

Key speakers at this significant conference will include Harivansh Narayan Singh, Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha; Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Union Minister of Culture and Tourism; Kiren Rijiju, Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, and former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar.

Additionally, Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena, Chief Minister of Delhi Rekha Gupta, Deputy Speaker Mohan Singh Bisht, and Delhi Cabinet Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh will also participate, Gupta mentioned.

In total, 125 Liaison Officers from the Delhi Government will serve as Protocol Officers to manage the needs of State Guests.

Moreover, the Speakers and Deputy Speakers of various State Legislative Assemblies will be honored with the status of State Guests during the conference, as informed by Gupta.

The inaugural session on August 24 will also feature the release of a commemorative postage stamp by Union Minister for Communications and the Development of North Eastern Region Jyotiraditya M. Scindia.

In alignment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Heritage and Development” (Virasat se Vikas ki Ore), Gupta reaffirmed the Delhi Legislative Assembly's commitment to preserving its rich history while embracing modernity and innovation. This vision is encapsulated in the implementation of a paperless working environment, the utilization of solar power, and the incorporation of forward-thinking themes such as Artificial Intelligence into the discussions at the conference.

Gupta emphasized the Assembly’s unique historical significance, recalling how this building, constructed in 1912 following Delhi's designation as the capital in 1911, was the site of early legislative debates on universal education, the abolition of exploitative labor contracts, and women’s suffrage.

It was within these walls that leaders like Lala Lajpat Rai, Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya, and Gopal Krishna Gokhale utilized the legislative forum to contest colonial policies. This very setting ignited opposition to the Rowlatt Act, which sparked the Non-Cooperation Movement and exposed the oppressive nature of British governance, Gupta concluded.
