Delhi BJP marks Kedar Nath Sahni's 100th birth anniversary with centenary event
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organised a centenary celebration on Saturday, 24 October 2026, to honour the 100th birth anniversary of Kedar Nath Sahni — former Governor, former Chief Executive Councillor of Delhi, and former Delhi BJP President. The event was inaugurated by Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda, who lit the ceremonial lamp to mark the occasion.
A Legacy of Discipline and Organisational Commitment
Speaking at the event, Nadda paid tribute to Sahni's contributions, describing his life as 'an inspiring example of organisational discipline, ideological commitment, personal warmth towards party workers and social service.' He credited Sahni with playing a pivotal role in strengthening both the Bharatiya Jana Sangh and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), saying Sahni gave the organisation 'a new direction through his leadership, foresight and systematic working style.'
Nadda also highlighted one of Sahni's defining traits — a structured, process-driven approach to organisation. 'Long before the term SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) became widely discussed, Sahni emphasised the importance of clear working methods and established procedures in organisational functioning,' he said.
Delhi BJP President Recalls Sahni's Human Touch
Delhi BJP President Harsh Malhotra, who presided over the centenary celebration, described Sahni as someone who 'embodied dignity, gentleness and patience.' He said Sahni was 'not merely a leader; he was a friend to every party worker' — from the youngest entrant to the most senior office-bearer. Malhotra called upon all present to imbibe Sahni's ideals: respect for party workers, dignity towards political opponents, and placing the nation above personal interests.
Speaker Gupta's Personal Connection
Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta offered a personal tribute, recalling that in 1984, when Sahni served as party president, he had received the opportunity to contest the Delhi University Students' Union election. Later, in 1997, when Sahni again held the presidency, Gupta got the chance to contest the Municipal Corporation of Delhi election as a councillor. He described Sahni as 'a gracious, simple and warm-hearted personality.'
Distinguished Attendees at the Centenary Event
The programme was conducted by Delhi BJP Vice President Rajesh Bhatia. Pradeep Sahni, son of Kedar Nath Sahni, was present alongside other family members. Among the senior BJP leaders attending were Rambhaj, Mool Chand Chawla, Chand Ram, Om Prakash Sharma, Jagdish Mukhi, and Mahesh Chandra Sharma. Dayanand Ji from the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Delhi Jal Board Vice Chairman Satish Upadhyay, MP Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, MLAs Harish Khurana and Jitendra Mahajan, and Deputy Leader in the Municipal Corporation Jaibhagwan Yadav were also present.
The gathering underscored the enduring regard within the BJP for Sahni's legacy — and the party's intent to project his values of discipline and ideological rigour as a template for its current and future leadership.
