New Delhi, April 19 (NationPress) At least four individuals have lost their lives and approximately 12 others are feared trapped following the collapse of a four-storey building in the Mustafabad locality of Delhi during the early hours of Saturday, according to officials.

The tragic event occurred around 3 a.m., after a period of intense overnight rainfall and thunderstorms that affected various areas of the city.

Sandeep Lamba, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (North East District), reported, “Four out of the 14 rescued have succumbed to their injuries... The building was four floors high. Rescue efforts are ongoing, and between eight to ten individuals are still feared trapped.”

Giving an update from the scene, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) official Mohan Shaheedi stated, “Approximately 12 people are believed to be trapped under the rubble, which includes 9 adults and 3 children. Local sources indicate that 6 individuals have been rescued and transported to the hospital. Two teams from the NDRF are on-site, along with support from Delhi Fire Services, Delhi Police, and volunteers.

He continued, “Authorities are working to identify potential cavities and locations beneath the debris where survivors might be trapped. Technical searches are ongoing with the aid of rescue dogs to detect any signs of life. If any indications are found, special attention is directed to those areas. The operation is extremely challenging and is being executed with the utmost care.”
