Delhi Police bust illegal call centre in Dwarka, 5 arrested for Amazon-Apple fraud
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Delhi Police's Anti-Auto Theft Squad (AATS), Dwarka District, has dismantled an illegal international call centre operating out of Vipin Garden, Uttam Nagar, arresting five individuals on 29 September 2026 for allegedly defrauding foreign nationals by impersonating customer support agents of Amazon and Apple. The raid, conducted during the intervening night of 28 and 29 September, forms part of a targeted drive against fraudulent call centre operations in the capital.
How the Operation Unfolded
Acting on specific intelligence, a team led by Inspector Manish Yadav, AATS Dwarka, under the supervision of ACP/Operations Subhash Malik, carried out discreet surveillance and technical verification of the suspected premises before executing the raid. The operation was conducted on the directions of DCP Dwarka Kushal Pal Singh as part of a special drive against illegal call centres. A dedicated team comprising Sub-Inspectors Dhananjay Kumar and Jitender Singh, ASI Dev Kumar, and several head constables — including woman Head Constable Mamta — was constituted to identify such establishments and apprehend those involved.
Modus Operandi: VoIP, Remote Access and Fictitious Identities
According to police, the accused contacted foreign nationals using VoIP applications including MicroSIP, X-Lite, and Google Voice, while posing as technical support executives from Amazon and Apple. After gaining victims' trust, they allegedly persuaded them to install AnyDesk and other remote-access software, subsequently tricking them into making payments or surrendering sensitive financial information. Call scripts, international contact databases, and login credentials were among the digital evidence recovered.
Police recovered 10 laptops, four mobile phones, two Wi-Fi routers, headsets, and other calling accessories from the premises. Digital evidence — including the VoIP and remote-access applications, international contact lists, and incriminating login data — was also seized.
The Accused: Who Was Arrested
The five persons apprehended have been identified as Simranjeet, 33, a resident of Ludhiana; Mark Martin, 47, of Gurugram; Elton John Salters, 43, of Kolkata; Abhishek S Abraham, 30, of Mehrauli, Delhi; and Anita, 34, of Kendrapara, Odisha.
According to police, Simranjeet managed operational infrastructure, including allocating user IDs and login credentials. Martin allegedly handled overseas calls and posed as a technical support executive to persuade foreign victims. Salters reportedly operated multiple systems and communicated with foreign nationals via VoIP — police noted he had previously been involved in similar activities. Abraham allegedly worked as a call-centre agent in the fraud operation, while Anita allegedly used a dedicated laptop to contact foreign nationals under fictitious identities. Of the five, one woman has been served a notice.
Case Registered, Investigation Ongoing
A case has been registered under FIR No. 259/2026, dated 29 September 2026, at Mohan Garden Police Station under Sections 318(4), 319(2), 61(2), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and Sections 66(C) and 66(D) of the Information Technology Act. Further investigation is currently underway. This bust is the latest in a series of actions by Delhi Police against illegal international call centres that exploit VoIP technology to target victims abroad, raising fresh questions about the ease with which such operations are set up in residential localities.
