New Delhi, June 8 (NationPress) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta vehemently criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Congress on Sunday for deceiving slum residents for years and failing to provide even basic amenities.
During the inauguration of a 24-seater Jan Seva Camp (JSC) at the JJ Cluster in Nehru Camp, Haiderpur, she emphasized the government's duty to deliver improved services and facilities to the populace, asserting that the Delhi government is committed to fulfilling this obligation.
In her address to the media, CM Gupta accused past administrations of misleading slum dwellers by advising them against voting for the BJP.
She highlighted that neither Kejriwal's nor Sheila Dikshit's administrations had allocated any financial support for slum residents, whereas her government is pursuing development projects valued at Rs 700 crore.
Responding to claims that AAP leaders were allegedly warning slum dwellers about the BJP-led Delhi government demolishing their homes, she assured that such actions would only occur after providing them with adequate housing.
However, CM Gupta clarified that the government must comply with court orders, stating, "If the court mandates something, it aligns with the public's best interests."
Addressing the Madrasi colony near Barapullah nullah, she noted the court's directive for its removal on four occasions to facilitate drain cleaning, warning that failure to comply could lead to floods like those experienced in 2023.
Regarding actions in the Railways' colony, she questioned, "If someone suffers harm near the tracks, who will be accountable—Atishi, Arvind Kejriwal, or Saurabh Bhardwaj?"
Expressing concern over some individuals in shanties, she remarked that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had provided 1,675 flats at Wazirpur slum, but residents cannot expect to occupy the flats while continuing to live in shanties.
Condemning previous governments for the lack of infrastructure in the area, CM Gupta noted that there were no drains, playgrounds for children, or facilities for women to bathe and relieve themselves.
She pledged to ensure that women in slums have access to snanghars (bathing houses) and announced plans to construct five to six such facilities along with drainage systems to alleviate residents' hardships.
