Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 26 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Delhi, Rekha Gupta, participated in the 'Vardaan' Film Festival on Thursday, emphasizing that organ donation transcends mere medical procedures; it represents the ultimate gift of providing a new lease on life to others.
One person's commitment can illuminate a path of hope for countless families, she noted.
According to the Chief Minister, utilizing art and cinema to enhance societal awareness regarding sensitive topics such as organ and body donation is both inspiring and commendable.
The festival was organized by the Dadhichi Deh Dan Samiti and saw the presence of notable figures, including Union Minister of State Harsh Malhotra, MLA Om Prakash Sharma from Vishwas Nagar, Padma Shri award-winning actor Manoj Joshi, along with other distinguished guests.
Such initiatives promote progressive thought within society, fostering a spirit of service and dedication to humanity, she expressed.
She reiterated that the call from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to transform organ donation into a mass movement serves as an inspiring directive for the country, encouraging individuals to join this noble cause.
At the national level, the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTTO) is dedicated to facilitating organ donation. However, until recently, Delhi lacked a structured and formal framework for this initiative.
In response to this gap, the Delhi Government established the State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (SOTTO), which has become a strong platform for those willing to pledge their organs.
Since its inception in September, over 800 individuals have signed up on this platform, yet there remains a pressing need for enhanced public awareness in this vital area.
The Chief Minister urged attendees to educate themselves and spread awareness in their communities, encouraging more individuals to participate in this noble endeavor.
She reaffirmed that organ donation stands as the highest service to humanity and a sacred means of giving life even after one's own.
Commending the Dadhichi Deh Dan Samiti for its long-standing commitment to public awareness, she stated that the dedication of its volunteers serves as a beacon of inspiration for society.
