New Delhi, Dec 2 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Delhi, Rekha Gupta, inaugurated a campaign aimed at creating Disaster Ready Schools, emphasizing that this program will enhance the ability of schools to be self-sufficient and prepared for emergencies such as earthquakes and fires.
Expressing gratitude to the policymakers for initiating this national program from the capital, CM Gupta remarked, “Students in Delhi will not only be educated about their own safety but will also become advocates for vigilance, responsibility, and safety awareness in the community.”
The campaign was launched at a gathering held at Springdales School, Pusa Road. CM Gupta stated, “It is the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi that our nation, cities, and schools should be prepared for disasters.”
Given that school premises can host up to 1,000 children at any time, she emphasized the necessity of ensuring readiness for any potential disaster and raising public awareness.
“The Disaster Ready School initiative is significant and expansive, and Delhi is committed to it. The administration will collaborate to equip our children and create a city that is well-prepared for emergencies,” she added.
Our goal is to progressively implement this initiative across all schools, ensuring that every child, teacher, and institution is fully prepared to handle disasters, she explained.
“As part of this campaign, each school will develop its own disaster management plan, and regular mock drills will be held to teach students the immediate actions they should take while remaining calm during emergencies,” stated the Chief Minister.
“Additionally, the entire school staff will undergo training that could be vital for saving lives during actual crises. The NDMA, DDMA, and the Education Department are collaborating to ensure that every school and child in Delhi is included in this safety effort,” she confirmed.
In a video message, she stated, “The Delhi government has introduced the Disaster Ready Schools Campaign to safeguard the children of Delhi. This campaign aims to make every school more secure and capable in times of disaster.”
“Children are at the heart of this initiative. Their safety, understanding, and confidence are paramount. In challenging situations, it is the child who is prepared in advance that can make sound decisions,” she explained.
Consequently, specialized training in disaster management, routine exercises, and essential knowledge will be provided in schools, equipping every child to protect themselves and others during crises. I urge all children to be responsible, stay vigilant, and support each other during tough times,” she concluded.
