New Delhi, Dec 21 (NationPress) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated on Sunday that the government aims for every woman to feel secure, guaranteeing them freedom to work and equal opportunities to advance. “Women in Delhi are vital to the development of a progressive Delhi. Our government prioritizes the safety of every woman, providing opportunities for talent, and instilling confidence in every step they take,” CM Gupta expressed in a message on X.
As the fourth female head of government in Delhi since 1998, CM Gupta emphasized, “We need to ensure freedom to work, security in moving forward, and equal opportunities for all. Today, under the guidance of our Honourable Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji, women's empowerment is our commitment, our path, and our mission.”
On Saturday, CM Gupta also announced that the government has created a comprehensive framework for an Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy, anticipated to be rolled out in the next financial year to foster the seamless integration of electric vehicles and combat pollution.
She noted that the EV Policy will significantly aid in curbing pollution in the national capital, as vehicle emissions contribute greatly to air quality degradation.
“The initiative is not only about financial incentives, but also about securing a sustainable future for Delhi,” she remarked. “When every citizen adopts EVs, there will be a notable decrease in PM 2.5 and PM 10 levels. Our government is enhancing charging infrastructure and subsidies to position Delhi as the country’s, and potentially the world’s, ‘EV capital’,” she added.
“In this battle against pollution, technology and government assistance are our most potent tools,” she reiterated.
The Chief Minister clarified that the new EV policy will primarily focus on offering financial incentives. To bridge the significant cost gap between petrol-diesel (ICE) vehicles and electric vehicles, adequate subsidies will be provided.
Moreover, the Delhi government has already removed road tax and registration fees for EV purchases, significantly making new vehicles more affordable, she highlighted.
CM Gupta acknowledged public concerns regarding the fate of old vehicles in the transition to EVs. In response, the government has devised a ‘scrapping’ plan for old vehicles.
A ‘scrapping incentive’ scheme will be introduced to eliminate highly polluting vehicles from the streets. Citizens who scrap an old petrol or diesel vehicle will receive additional financial benefits when purchasing a new EV, encouraging a shift towards electric vehicles.
