New Delhi, Jan 30 (NationPress) The Congress party has made a commitment to provide improved educational and job opportunities for Muslim and other minority communities in Delhi ahead of the Assembly elections scheduled for February 5.

During a press briefing, Congress MP Imran Masood criticized the AAP government's track record, claiming it has made empty promises to minority groups.

Masood stated that the Congress will prioritize the welfare of Muslims and minorities by executing the UPA government’s 15-point program based on the findings of the Justice Rajinder Sachar committee.

“The AAP's shortcomings were evident during the CAA protests and the Delhi riots of 2020,” he remarked, emphasizing that minorities and underprivileged communities have suffered since the AAP and BJP took power.

He highlighted that the Congress manifesto for the upcoming elections reflects a strong commitment to uplift minorities and integrate them into the mainstream by facilitating their advancement through various initiatives.

Masood pointed out that both AAP and BJP have neglected minority interests over the past decade.

Once in power, the Congress pledges to implement the Prime Minister’s 15-point action plan established under the UPA government aimed at the welfare of minorities as outlined in the Sachar Committee report.

The anticipated measures include increased educational access, equal opportunities in finance and employment, and efforts to avert communal violence and social turmoil.

Furthermore, he indicated that the Congress will revive the Punjabi Academy, establish a Punjabi Chair at JNU, and reinforce the Delhi SC/ST, Minority and Handicapped Development Finance Corporation to provide these communities with low-interest loans for business ventures.

The Congress leader also assured that the government will prioritize filling vacancies for Urdu, Punjabi, and Bhojpuri teachers, establish a university in honor of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur, create a Jain Welfare Board, convene the Delhi Waqf Board, and guarantee timely payments to Imams and Muezzins.

Voting for the new 70-member Delhi Assembly will occur on February 5, with results to be announced on February 8. The Congress, which held power in the city for 15 years from 1998 to 2013, has not secured a single Assembly seat in the last two elections in 2015 and 2020.
