Will the Delhi HC Rule in Favor of Karisma Kapoor's Children Regarding Sunjay Kapur's Estate?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Dec 24 (NationPress) The Delhi High Court has announced that it will withhold its ruling on a plea brought forth by the children of Bollywood star Karisma Kapoor, who are seeking a stake in their late father Sunjay Kapur’s estate. A solo-judge Bench led by Justice Jyoti Singh noted that all involved parties have concluded their written submissions, indicating that no additional pleadings will be accepted.
This case stems from a familial dispute over the estate of the deceased industrialist, where Karisma Kapoor’s children, Samaira Kapoor and Kiaan Kapoor, have accused Sunjay Kapur’s third wife, Priya Kapur, of altering his will in an effort to seize the entire inheritance.
During previous hearings, senior advocate Mahesh Jethmalani, representing the children, alleged that the will was modified while Sunjay Kapur was vacationing with his son. Furthermore, the person accused of altering the document was appointed as a company director merely a day after Kapur’s passing.
The children claim that the will, dated March 21, 2025, which bequeaths Sunjay Kapur’s entire personal estate to his widow, Priya Sachdev Kapur, is a forgery, resulting from a “criminal conspiracy” aimed at excluding them and their grandmother, Rani Kapur, from their rightful inheritance.
On December 22, the Delhi High Court expressed dissatisfaction with Karisma Kapoor and Rani Kapur for not submitting their written documents on time, even after oral arguments had finished.
During the recent session, counsel for Karisma Kapoor and Rani Kapur confirmed that their submissions had been lodged with the Delhi High Court registry, leading Justice Singh to reserve the verdict.
Named as plaintiffs in the case, Samaira and Kiaan Kapoor are requesting a one-fifth share each of their late father's estate, asserting their rights as legitimate heirs.
The siblings have maintained that they were in continual contact with their father through various means, including meetings, holidays, and electronic communication, and frequently resided with him at his residence in Delhi.
Having married Karisma Kapoor in 2003 and divorced her in 2016, Sunjay Kapur passed away at the age of 53 from a heart attack while playing polo in the UK, leaving behind assets valued at approximately Rs 30,000 crore.
