New Delhi, March 14 (NationPress) Delhi Minister Ashish Sood announced on Saturday that the Delhi Khel Mahakumbh has offered thousands of athletes a platform to display their abilities and access enhanced training facilities. This initiative is a significant step towards fortifying the sports landscape of the national capital.

In an interview with IANS, Minister Sood highlighted that approximately 22,000 to 23,000 athletes participated in various sports during this month-long event.

“The Khel Mahakumbh has created avenues for more than 22,000 to 23,000 athletes to engage in diverse sports disciplines for an entire month. This initiative is geared towards preparing our athletes for the forthcoming Olympics. Moreover, Delhi’s performance in the National Games has seen an upward trend, and our commitment lies in providing our athletes with opportunities and adequate training,” the Minister remarked.

He underscored that the goal of this initiative is to establish a robust support network for athletes by ensuring access to excellent coaching, proper nutrition, and superior training facilities.

“The Khel Mahakumbh has set the wheels in motion by offering opportunities to aspiring athletes. When athletes receive quality coaching, appropriate refreshment, and top-notch training, we can anticipate medal wins. Through the Khel Mahakumbh, we will persist in creating such opportunities, aiming for our athletes in Delhi to secure more medals in the years to come,” he affirmed.

Minister Sood also shared on his official X account that the volleyball finals of the Delhi Sports Mahakumbh 2026 showcased the unwavering dedication and sportsmanship of young participants.

“During the volleyball finals of the Delhi Sports Mahakumbh 2026, we observed the extraordinary commitment, discipline, and sportsmanship exhibited by our young athletes. They delivered outstanding performances filled with enthusiasm. Such events motivate the youth of Delhi to advance and foster a robust sports culture,” he stated.

In February 2026, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated the month-long 'Khelo Delhi – Delhi Khel Mahakumbh' at Chhatrasal Stadium to cultivate a vibrant sports culture within the national capital.

The sporting festival spanned across 16 stadiums and sports complexes in Delhi, witnessing participation from over 20,000 athletes.

Competitions were held in several disciplines, including athletics, football, wrestling, basketball, volleyball, kabaddi, and squash.
