Delhi Lieutenant Governor and Delhi Development Authority (DDA) Chairman T.S. Sandhu on Thursday, 7 May distributed appointment letters to 1,647 new recruits of the capital's primary land-owning body, urging them to serve as the foundation of Delhi's growth in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Viksit Bharat@2047 vision. The event, called the Niyukti Samaroh, was held at the Yamuna Sports Complex in New Delhi.

Addressing the gathering, Sandhu invoked the Prime Minister's framing of youth as drivers of national progress. "Under the leadership of PM Modi, the vision of a 'Viksit Bharat' is the national goal," he said. He further quoted Modi's assertion that "with innovative ideas, energy and purpose, Yuva Shakti is at the forefront of nation-building."

Sandhu described the current period as the 'Amrit Kaal' — a defining phase in which decisions made today will shape India by 2047. "We are living in an era of profound transformation… our actions today will determine the India of 2047," he told the recruits.

The Lieutenant Governor underscored that the recruits — spanning administration, planning, engineering, and field services — would directly influence how Delhi grows, how its spaces are designed, and how citizens experience everyday life. "The role of personnel entering public service is central to achieving our national objective of a Viksit Dilli and Viksit Bharat by 2047," Sandhu said.

He stressed that their responsibilities carry both technical and ethical weight. "You are entering service at a time when cities are facing complex challenges — rapid urbanisation, environmental pressures, and increasing expectations from citizens. Addressing these challenges will require not only technical competence, but also commitment, innovation, and ethical clarity," he said in the presence of Union Housing and Urban Affairs Secretary Srinivas R. Katikithala.

Call for Empathy and Institutional Integrity

Sandhu urged the new DDA officers to build systems that are fair, efficient, and responsive to citizen needs. "The decisions you make, the diligence you show, and the standards you uphold will define not just your career, but also the credibility of the institution you serve," he said.

He reminded the recruits that public service ultimately centres on people. "Behind every file, every project, and every policy, there are citizens whose lives are affected by your work. Approach your responsibilities with empathy as well as professionalism," Sandhu added.
