Delhi Lieutenant Governor T.S. Sandhu on Tuesday, 22 September 2026, convened a high-level interaction with senior Delhi Police officials — assistant commissioners and above — at the Police Headquarters Auditorium, issuing a sweeping set of directives to make policing more citizen-centric, visible, and accountable across the capital.

Pink Force and Women's Safety

The most notable directive was the establishment of a dedicated 'Pink Force' — a visible, responsive unit of trained women patrol officers to be deployed at schools, colleges, Metro stations, and vulnerable hotspots. Sandhu called women and children's safety a priority and said every citizen must feel 'safe, heard, and protected.'

Sandhu posted on X: 'Women and children's safety is a priority. Directed Delhi Police to establish a dedicated Pink Force — a dedicated, visible and responsive force of trained women patrol units at schools, colleges, Metro stations and vulnerable hotspots.'

Key Directives Issued

Sandhu directed that every police station become a place where citizens feel heard, helped, and safe. He called for a stronger connection between beat officers and the communities they serve, alongside increased visible foot and motorcycle patrols in crime-prone, high-footfall, and vulnerable areas — specifically around schools, colleges, markets, and transport hubs.

On grievance redressal, the Lieutenant Governor directed that Jan Sunwai complaints be tracked through a digital mechanism, with every complaint acknowledged, tracked, and resolved within a defined timeline. Complaints concerning other departments are to be forwarded promptly to the relevant agencies.

He also mandated regular, interactive awareness programmes in schools covering POCSO and child safety, cybercrime, substance abuse, and road safety. Each police district has been asked to nominate a Nodal Officer and prepare a quarterly calendar for such sessions.

Traffic and Surveillance Upgrades

On traffic management, Sandhu directed the identification and active monitoring of major congestion points, with visible deployment during peak hours. He called for strengthened real-time CCTV and Traffic Control Room monitoring to address gridlock across the capital.

BRICS Summit Performance Recognised

Sandhu praised Delhi Police and other security agencies for the successful and secure conduct of the BRICS Summit, noting that the scale of the event reflected careful planning, close coordination, and high professional standards — while ensuring minimum disruption to daily life in the capital. He said the operational lessons from the Summit would strengthen preparedness for future international events hosted in Delhi.

Second Visit to Police HQ

This was Sandhu's second visit to Police Headquarters, following his earlier visit on 24 June 2026. The interaction was explicitly results-focused — assessing not just initiatives launched since then, but measurable on-ground outcomes, public response, gaps identified, and further action planned. The Lieutenant Governor's stated objective was clear: 'a safer Delhi and greater confidence in the police among citizens.'
