Faridabad, July 10 (NationPress) A 4.4-magnitude earthquake originating from Jhajjar, Haryana, sent intense tremors throughout the Delhi-NCR region on Thursday, leaving many residents in a state of alarm. They described it as the “longest” quake they have experienced in years.
The seismic event struck at approximately 9:04 a.m., with vibrations felt across the National Capital Region, including Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, and Faridabad.
The National Centre for Seismology reported that the epicenter was located in Jhajjar, and the tremors persisted for nearly a minute.
Fortunately, there have been no reports of injuries or structural damage as a result of the quake. However, the unexpected jolt caused widespread panic, prompting many to flee their homes, workplaces, and shops.
In conversations with IANS, locals expressed their disbelief over the earthquake’s strength and duration. Arun Singh, a Bahadurgarh resident, recounted, “I was sitting on the bed when the earthquake hit. It was a very strong and long earthquake. My family and I immediately ran out of our homes.”
Dharmpal, another local, recalled, “I was at my shop. My chair started moving, and then I saw the fan was also shaking. It was a very strong earthquake. We came running out.”
Another Bahadurgarh resident, Sukhbir Singh, shared, “My wife and I were sitting on the sofa when we felt the tremors. We immediately informed everyone and came out of the house.”
Balram, who was dining with family, said, “We quickly came outside and prayed for everyone’s safety. We felt it for a long time. I think it was the longest earthquake I have ever felt.”
Mehrchand, sitting outside during the quake, expressed concern over potential damage to homes, stating, “Fortunately, nothing has happened.”
Scenes of panic were mirrored in Faridabad, where residents fled buildings in haste. Seema, another local, stated, “I was having tea when I felt the bed shaking. I knew it was an earthquake and came out of the house.”
Yogesh, another resident from Faridabad, reported, “My fan started shaking, and we came out of our homes. Everyone in the neighborhood gathered in the open space.”
Although earthquakes of this magnitude are not uncommon in the Delhi area, significant seismic events have been rare in recent years.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation and have advised residents to stay calm and adhere to safety protocols.
