New Delhi, March 30 (NationPress) – On Monday, the Special Cell of the Delhi Police apprehended Shabir Ahmed Lone, a notorious terrorist affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), who had connections to a recently dismantled module involved in the Metro poster incident, according to officials.

Special Cell sources disclosed that Lone was taken into custody late on Sunday night in the Ghazipur region by a skilled team under the guidance of DCP Praveen Pathi.

This arrest follows a high-priority investigation initiated after a complaint from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) on February 8 regarding inflammatory and anti-India posters discovered at various locations, including Janpath, which raised significant security alarms.

The case has been filed under pertinent sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the DPDP Act, prompting the Special Cell to conduct a thorough investigation that incorporated both ground intelligence and technical surveillance.

Additional CP Pramod Singh Kushwaha confirmed that Lone was a central figure in the earlier dismantled module.

“Recall that the last module we dismantled involved Shabir Ahmed, which included seven Bangladeshi nationals and one Indian. He was leading that operation. After its disbandment, he returned to India to seek opportunities for establishing a new module and to identify potential recruits,” Kushwaha stated to IANS.

Additionally, Kushwaha revealed that Lone had been previously arrested in 2007 and again in 2015, during which he was allegedly found with an AK-47 rifle. His associate, Sajjad Gul, who had ties with him, later fled to Pakistan and is believed to have formed The Resistance Front (TRF), according to officials.

Investigators further disclosed that Lone had traveled to Bangladesh, where he was reportedly working on establishing a new terror module.

Earlier, on February 23, the Delhi Police arrested eight suspects related to the same network. Preliminary investigations indicated that this group was operating under Lone’s command. Officials noted that Lone had previously spent nearly a decade incarcerated on terror-related charges before being released on bail in 2019.

After securing bail, sources reported that Lone fled to Bangladesh and maintained contact with high-ranking LeT leaders, including Hafeez Saeed and Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi, both implicated as masterminds of the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.

The Delhi Police are currently interrogating those arrested to uncover the intended targets and the broader implications of the alleged conspiracy.

Point of View
