How Did Delhi Police Arrest 130 Street Criminals?

New Delhi, June 2 (NationPress) - In a significant operation, the Delhi Police's West District unit detained 130 individuals linked to various street offenses throughout May. This group included 15 robbers, 42 snatchers, 17 burglars, and 56 thieves.

During this month, the police filed over 81 cases under the Arms Act, Excise Act, Gambling Act, and NDPS Act.

Details shared in a press release indicated that 25 Proclaimed Offenders (PO) were tracked down, resulting in a substantial recovery of cash, mobile devices, two-wheelers, and jewelry. Additionally, a dedicated effort was made to combat public drinking and disorderly conduct in the region.

In their pursuit of street criminals, police successfully solved 11 cases with the apprehension of 15 robbers. The arrest of 42 snatchers led to the resolution of 32 cases and the recovery of cash, 10 mobile phones, six gold chains, and two-wheelers.

Seventeen burglars were caught last month, resolving 14 cases along with the retrieval of mobile phones, cash, and various items such as credit cards and batteries.

A total of 56 thieves were apprehended, helping to resolve 55 theft cases and recover seven scooties, one motorcycle, 55 mobile phones, and cash.

In an effort against organized crime, the West District police documented 37 cases under the Arms Act, resulting in the arrest of 38 criminals and the seizure of two pistols, five live rounds, and 36 knives.

Thirty cases were filed under the Excise Act, with over 13,500 quarters confiscated.

The police reported 12 cases of Gambling Act violations, leading to the arrest of 38 individuals and the recovery of ₹3,88,100. Furthermore, two cases were lodged under the NDPS, resulting in the arrest of two suspects.

As part of preventive measures against mischief-makers, over 1,200 individuals were charged for public drinking, while more than 550 arrests were made under sections 126/170 BNSS, with additional arrests under 126/169 BNSS and 92/93/97 DP Act.

During this operation, 25 POs were either arrested or located, who had been evading legal processes.

The police announced in a press release from Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Vichitra Veer that this operation was executed “in a determined effort to ensure public safety and enforce the law.”

They stated that the West District police initiated a thorough and steadfast campaign across all areas to combat crime and disturbances. “A multifaceted strategy was employed, aiming to address street crime, organized crime, and to curb mischief-makers, enhancing the sense of safety among local residents,” officials noted.
